ontology: In Steve Cayzer's  paper for blogtalk; there is a reference to a definition of ontology: I also found an interesting example of an ontology: http://www.mesquiteproject.org/ontology/Loggerhead/abbreviated/index.html .  it describes the ontology of a turtle. I stepped over this example in a mail of John F. Sowa. where he links to his book and a set of top level categories. "The BlogosphereMap" (abstract of our talk at blogtalk) The Internet like any other media is not a mere reflection of reality but a reality on its own: It represents a new cultural sphere and has its own characteristics with respect to communicative codes and knowledge production. The phenomenon of weblogs show that media are not necesserily pointing to "everyday reality" and events in "real world"; weblogs exhibit a remarkably self-referential quality as well: They regularly point to other weblogs where an event has been already intellectually processed, and the way it has been processed - its reception - is to certain extent as or even more important than the original event itself. This process of self-reference can be found in any vivid system and it is believed to be clodely related to the emergence of consciousness and intelligence. The interconnectivity of weblogs reminds us the way our neuronal system works. If we look at tools like Blogstreet (in connection with TouchGraph based visualization) and expand several nodes in the neighbourhood of a weblog the apparent similarity is amazing: We find a network of "processing units". Our concept of the BlogosphereMap develops this approach a bit further: What if we could see not only a static map but also (quasi-neuronal) activitities on it - the spread of news and thoughts within the neighbourhood of a weblog. 2:02:44 PM    comment [] - See Also:  blogospheremap

geoblog is a very interesting form of mapping weblog activities worldwide: here's a short description: What? Real time & updating display of weblog postings, around the world How? [MEMETIK] Meme: an information pattern, held in an individual's memory, which is capable of being copied to another individual's memory. Memetics: the theoretical and empirical science that studies the replication, spread and evolution of memes Nach der lektüre von Principia Cybernetica bleibt der Eindruck dass Memetik ein grundsätzlich sehr interessanter Ansatz um die Verbreitung von Ideen zu erklären; gerade in bezug auf Weblogs steckt da einiges drin.Das Problem liegt aber darin, dass nicht gezeigt wurde, was ein Meme konkret ist. Da ist immer der Vergleich mit Genen oder Viren...aber das ist eben ein vergleich und keine Defnition. Der Hund liegt wohl darin begraben, dass für die "Ansteckung" durch ein Meme, es nicht ausreicht etwas, z.B. eine Idee zu hören: Meme kommen nicht direkt in den Kopf, wie Viren, sondern sie lösen nur etwas aus; - was genau, kann vorher wohl niemand so genau sagen. Die Effekte einer Idee sind wohl bei jedem unterschiedlich, weil sie nicht nur passiv aufgenommen sondern je nach persönlichen Umständen (Kultur und Biographie) aktiv rekonstruiert wird (siehe Konstruktivismus, siehe mein buch dazu) Ein Meme kann also nicht nur eine sequenz von Codes sein (eine Theorie, ein Glaubensbekenntnis,...) sondern zugleich auch immer ein setting an Bedingungen und Umständen seiner Verbreitung: Mit anderen Worten: Der Code und der Mechanismus seiner Verbreitung sind nicht trennbar. Eine konzeptionelle Trennung wie im Falle der Meme schafft einige Verwirrung, weil plötzlich Ideen und Theorien selbst lebendig und mit Absichten ausgestattet erscheinen...und das halte ich schlicht für blödsinn. 12:35:01 PM    comment [] - See Also:  blogospheremap
