ontology: In Steve Cayzer's  paper for blogtalk; there is a reference to a definition of ontology: I also found an interesting example of an ontology: http://www.mesquiteproject.org/ontology/Loggerhead/abbreviated/index.html .  it describes the ontology of a turtle. I stepped over this example in a mail of John F. Sowa. where he links to his book and a set of top level categories. Weblogs as filtering tools. Why blogging isn't a fad. Arnold Kling offers one of the best explanations I've seen of the value of blogging as a distributed information filtering mechanism. "This filtering process makes all of us more efficient. Information with low value does not travel far. Information with high general value tends to travel the farthest. Information with low general value but high local value tends to reach interested people but then die out because as it gets passed along its value decays below the threshold. Everyone tends to receive information with a high value to them, and they avoid having to read information that has low value to them." [Werblog] Gradually working off the backlog of items lurking in my news aggregator. This is, indeed, an excellent explanation of the value of weblogs in organizational settings and in communities of practice. I might have gotten to it earlier, but it's from another of those Corante blogs that continue to refuse to offer RSS feeds. I have yet to hear the argument about why RSS feeds are a bad thing from Corante's point of view. But until I have time to scrape these blogs into my aggregator I just don't have time to track them, no matter how excellent the content may be. [Jim McGee] I would say that is also a pretty good explanation of the values of weblogs in communities of interest. Information with a high value for various people who are interested in a particular domain gets amplified via their citations and comments. This seems to work beyond organizational boundaries. blogstreet stellt die Neighborhood eines bestimmten weblogs visuell/grafisch dar (mithilfe von TouchGraph). ideal um rauszufinden, wer von wem beeinflusst wird, um so auf neue, unentdeckte blogs zu stossen. neighborhood wird folgendermassen definiert: What is a Blog Neighborhood? It is a set of Related blogs based on the BlogRoll of the analyzed blog. For Authors, their Neighborhood is a pool of blogs to track. A community RSS aggregator for Manila?. This evening I got something working that I've wanted for quite some time. A community RSS aggregator in Manila. I'll explain it in the morning. I still have another programming project tonight -- to get Radio working with Audblog. We've got the wire we need on the server side, now I have to try to call it from the workstation and see if it works. Fingers crossed. (Postscript: Worked the first time.) Praise Murphy. And Jake has an announcement, but I'm going to let him make it first on the Radio UserLand mail list before pointing to it here. There's gotta be a reward for being in the loop. [Dave Winer] Hmm.... looks like Dave is really getting back to some Manila development. I am looking forward to hear more about this community aggregator idea... [Sebastian Fiedler] Update: Dave explains a little more what he tries to accomplish... This is an experiment. I've wanted to try this out for quite some time -- it's a mini-aggregator in a Manila site. A managing editor selects feeds for a news page for his or her community. This means that people can learn about and enjoy a news aggregator without having to install and run one on their own. When they want to control their own subscriptions, then they can advance to the next level. The display of the aggregator here is still quite crude. But there will be new stories at the top of the hour. I have to provide a way to see what we're subscribed to and a prefs page to add or remove feeds, and to determine how many are displayed on this page. In other words the development is far from finished. But it works. Well, that sounds a little bit like my experiment on Selected RSS streams. Hier einige Bemerkungen zu Topicmaps, speziell zu " the tao of topic-maps "siehe eintrag vom 30. Jänner ; Generell ist die Idee eine Topologie von Themen zu schaffen, die über verschiedene Informationsquellen rübergestülpt werden kann, natürlich äußerst interessant. Topicmaps werfen allerdings einige Fragen auf, die ich noch nicht befriedigend geklärt sehe: gibt es "the one and only topic map". ist es nicht vielmehr so, dass jeder seine eigene topicmap hat. Topicmaps zu definieren ist ein Prozess der zentralisiert werden muss. Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen dass er verteilt und selbstorganisiert passieren kann, weil es fragen aufwirft, wie: wer ist der chiefmapeditor themenlandschaften verändern sich und diese änderungen müssten sich auch in den maps wiederspiegel. Topicmaps sind ein weiterer verzweifelter Versuch die Dinge festzuschreiben und folgen einer  - meiner Ansicht nach - gescheiterten rationalistischen Tradition (und gar nicht dem taoistischen Prinzip, das doch jede Form permanenter Festschreibung ablehnt) - Topicmaps haben für mich jedenfalls den Geruch  einer "rationalistischen Bibel": the map that explains the world. was passiert mit neuen Themen: es sind doch gerade die neuen Themen die einen interessieren und die sich durch neue Stichwörter, Akronyme ankündigen. Gerade aktuelle Entwicklungen gehen in Topicmaps unter. möglicherweise sehe ich das Potential und die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten noch nicht deutlich genug und bin deshalb dankbar für jeden hinweis. Gerade weblogs zeigen aus meiner sicht aber deutlich die vorteile von subjektiven Informationsordnungen. Jeder Log ist letztlich ein subjektiver Filter, der ein verteilte, dynamische Ordnungsarbeit erlaubt. Das Ordnen ist bei Weblogs sozusagen ein Dauerprozess; ein permanentes Filtern aus dem kontinuielich Wissen extrahiert wird; während topicmaps mit der Illusion spielen, dass Wissensmanagment in eine feste Struktur mündet, der einmal gemacht wird und dann längere - vielleicht sogar ewige - Gültigkeit hat. 5:08:17 PM    comment [] - See Also:  netz=kultur Weblogpraxis
